The Winning Dogwood
Thursday, March 22, 2007
I was ecstatic to learn last month that I was one of the winners of the first annual Washington Gardener photo contest. I won an Honorable Mention for this photo -- the buds on a dogwood tree at our community garden. Now I know honorable mention is not quite the same as winning first, second, or third place, but if you'd have seen how happy I was, you'd have thought I'd won the grand prize! I have won contests before, but this was the first time I'd won recognition for my photography.
The photo is now published in the March/April edition of Washington Gardener magazine. A framed print will be on display in an art show opening tomorrow, March 23, at the Adams Bank Lobby in The World Building in downtown Silver Spring. All the winning photos from the contest will be on display there through May 25.

Congratulation! The others must have been out of this world for your not to have won first, though. This is the most amazing photo to me.
Congratulations! I've did the same once - but in a writing contest. Sometimes I think that's what made it possible for me to continue writing. It's hard to top winning the grand price...
And I agree - your photo deserves a grand price!
Wenda, thank you. I'm glad you like the photo.
Rosengeranium, I know what you mean. Winning this contest has really motivated me to keep going with my photography and keep trying new things with it. Thanks for stopping by!
Congrats, Christa! That's awesome. You are one of those people who just seem to have an eye for amazing photos. Every time I visit your blog, I wish I were better with my own camera :-)
Congratulations! I won an Honorable Mention and a Blue Ribbon in a photo competition in February. I was so happy, I cried! It has inspired me to take more thoughtful photos. I definitely look at "scenes" differently now, whether I have my camera with me or not.
Adding my congratulations, too, Christa...and have to note that since your wonderful photo is a celebration of buds, the timing is great for the March book club, because that Karel Capek loved buds, too.

Congratulation!! It is a great photo with a lot of detail. I also love to take pictures and post them on photoblog.com. It is interesting what people take pictures of and what some people think is art. Keep posting those award winning pictures.
That is great news! The photograph is beautiful. Good work ... you have every right to be very proud of yourself!! Post more pictures please.
Truly beautiful.
Congratulations!
Christa - have a look at the GBVC blog - we have taken up your challenge to eat vegetables at breakfast.
