Brandywine tomato seedlings... stretching toward the eventual two slices of bread and a thick slathering of mayonnaise. I'm dreaming of fresh tomato sandwiches.

Christa, what kind of luck have you had with Brandywine tomatoes?

Ed,
We've had good luck with them in the past couple years -- always grown from seed. We didn't get an abundant crop last year, most likely because we had the plants too close together and I think they were too crowded. But the ones we got were great. They're always our favorite for sandwiches.

I love Brandywine tomatoes, and having a slice so big it covers the whole piece of bread. Why am I suddenly hungry?

I love the look of these healthy little seedlings ... you'll have to take photos regularly so we can watch their progress.

It's a great photo! I wish I had your camera! My turnip seedlings are in the same stage, so I guess we both have to wait for our favourites.

I think everyone last year had some kind of trouble with tomatoes. My farmer friends tell me it was the torrential rains in June...

My brandywine seed was too old to germinate this year (serves me right for not saving seed) but it did well last year. I notice that it's a bit prone to blossom end rot from calcium deficiency due in our case to heavy rains, but that resolved when the weather moderated and they weren't bad at all.
